Tip 3: Put a lid on it

Other than first ensuring you are using the correct type of pan, size of pan, correct burner size, and correct heat-level, putting a lid on your pot will help it come to a boil faster.

For boiling 1lb (an entire box) of pasta, ears of corn, and more than three pounds of potatoes, my favorite pot to use is my large stockpot with colander insert.

For only a cup of pasta, 1lb of potatoes, and for boiling eggs, I use my much smaller 3 quart sauce pan.

How to know which pan is which just by looking at them?
My pans are imprinted on the bottom with their size ("3Qt"). Check the bottom of your pans to see for yourself what you actually own.
