Ten months postpartum

You are all going to be so proud (and possibly less annoyed with all my "I will get to the gym" talk!), I have been attending classes and working out on my own at my health club this entire month!

My workout schedule:
Monday - 40minute interval training on elliptical machine (250-350 calories burned) and walk 1.5miles (to/from school for Kindergarten pick-up)
Tuesday - 60minute step aerobics and 20minute strength training classes
Wednesday - 60minute Zumba class and walk 1.5miles (to/from school for Kindergarten pick-up)
Thursday - 60minute step aerobics and 20minute strength training classes
Friday - 40minute interval training on elliptical machine (250-350 calories burned) and walk 1.5miles (to/from school for Kindergarten pick-up)
Saturday - rest
Sunday - rest

I'm so grateful my husband doesn't go into work until around 10:30-11am every day as it allows him to be home with Nolan to give him his breakfast, play with him, and put him down for his morning nap. I take Emily to school at 8:20am and am at the gym for my 9:00am classes or to do some cardio alone every day. Not only has it given me more energy but it has me sleeping more soundly, drinking more water, and feeling really great about myself.

I have lost no additional weight this month. I'm am still sitting at 34lbs lost to date.

However, my inch loss is astounding!

Here is a print-screen of my measurements chart:

Most of my clothes are really loose and I can see my stomach flattening out, which really motivates me and has made me feel so great about how hard I've been working.

I have really focused on eating enough whole grains, vegetables, and fruits every day; eating proper portions at each of my six meals; not eating processed foods; watching my fat intake; staying within my calorie allotment each day; and allowing myself to have something I really love like chips & queso, a brownie, or a scoop of ice cream once a week, typically over the weekend.

I'm tracking everything I'm eating and my fitness through Sparkpeople.com and I have to tell you, it's hard work and requires a daily commitment but when has anything in life ever been easy?

I'm still breastfeeding Nolan three times a day, some times four and my menstrual cycle returned this last month (boo!). I no longer have to wear breastpads at all as I stopped being engorged in the mornings last month and no longer leak when nursing. Yea! :) I'm making myself stretch and do yoga at night before going to bed no later than 10:00pm so I can get 8 hours of sleep every night.

I'm not sure what more I can do to lose these last 8-10lbs, maybe speak with a Personal Trainer at my gym? I want to get to a healthy, easy-to-maintain weight and get my heart healthy as well as my cholesterol in the optimum range. I'm due for a physical exam and blood work this summer, which will let me know what, if anything, I can work on. For now, I'm just so excited over how many inches I've lost and how great I feel in my clothes!

  1. Those changes in your measurements are crazy! Wow! And you're getting a ton of exercise! Those last pounds are the hardest. I'm having the same problem, but I did start to make headway when I cleaned up my diet a lot. Sounds like you've already done that, but if you're interested you could look into the McDougall program. Basically a really clean plant-based diet- you could try for a while even if you don't want to eat plant-based long term. I have adopted it and followed his more strict weight loss track for a while, and it really is working. It's Dr John McDougall. Not a fad diet thing, but healthy and science-based.

  2. Thank you so much for the recommendation, I was hoping someone would lead me in a good, healthy direction. I will look into that for sure!

And YOU are looking amazing, congrats on all your weight loss!

  3. Ummm, wow! You're motivating me to track my measurements, when the scale doesn't change I get frustrated. Good job you. It sounds like your diet is good, that's always the hardest part. You might try switching from a cardio heavy workout to a weights heavy one. I worked with a trainer for over a year and she would constantly tell me that muscle burns more calories than fat, significantly more. It also takes up less space so the same weight looks smaller, as you already know based on your incredible measurements.

Keep it up. You're such an inspiration!

  4. Way to go!!! You're soooo incredibly lucky to have a supportive husband and great schedule! It's soo hard finding time for the gym working fulltime and then with the 3 girls. I need to quit making excuses though! :)

  5. Thank you SO VERY MUCH Momma Miles, comments like these go a long way to helping me stay motivated. :)

I really know nothing about getting in shape so I truly appreciate the tip to do a more weights-centered workout, I can definitely do that! I was thinking 30Day Shred by Jillian Micheal's as I already own it. Or maybe her Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism DVD or No More Trouble Zones DVD? Any advice for me? I'd love to hear anything ya got!

    Thanks again so much!

  6. My girl, Bre, so great to hear from you! And yes, I agree that having David be so incredibly supportive and generous of his free time so I can workout is key! Good for you for trying to take some time for yourself, it's hard to "do it all" but we deserve to care for ourselves some times! ;) I miss you!
