Boredom in a #toddler = tantrums and nap resistance #tuesdaytoddlertales #motherhood #kids

There's been a definite shift in Nolan recently - he gets bored quickly.

Ever day, we move between doing puzzles, jumping on the trampoline, dancing to music, dragging around his shopping cart, watching television, riding his bike, coloring, digging in the dirt that was once my tomato garden, playing dress-up (he loves to wear Emily's backpack and David's beanie), banging out a song on his piano, building with Legos, swinging & sliding, racing his cars around, and taking walks.

After about 10-12 minutes of doing his favorite things, he just seems over it. When he's over it, he starts flopping around on the floor, banging his toys against things (like our TV!), slapping things, throwing things, whining, crying, saying "nooooooooooo" to everything, and just wanting to eat.

He's clearly bored.

You know when he's the happiest?

When we are at activities with kids his age.

It's just that time. He's 2 1/2 years old and he needs more... EVERY DAY!

So, I've dug through all the old and new resources we have here locally and come up with some super fun things we are going to try out this Winter including a soccer class, swim lessons, and a tumbling class for kids under 3 years. Each class meets for 30 minutes one day per week. We are also going to purchase a membership to one of our favorite children's museums where everything is hands-on and I'm going to get my butt in gear and get us up and out of the house a few days each week to visit the zoo and aquarium that we already have memberships to.

It can be a challenge to get to and from activities with any time in between to really enjoying them though with all the minimum days and early release days at school but I definitely could make more of an effort! It's too easy to just laze around or get too involved in cleaning or my volunteer obligations.

Not anymore. This is probably my last year to 18 months with him at home with me as he'll be ready for Preschool soon. Gah! I better make the most of it!
