25 in 2010: Book 11

The most difficult book for me to read this year, because of it's tragic and often times disgusting subject matter, was The Kite Runner.

The suffering and despair of third-world country-level poverty, the rigid class system, and horrific tales of the Afganistan war, set the tone for this novel that is focused on the relationships between a father & son, best friends, and a servant & his Master.  The most difficult and yet, triumphant and moving part of the book was the relationship between Amir & Hassan, best friends since birth, and how the book followed them through adult-hood.  Love and respect between friends isn't always enough to stand up for what's right and most difficult when faced with life's most tragic and unjust challenges; however, when given a second chance, people can surprise you.

This book is engaging from page one.

I highly recommend this book!
