Double ear infections, a first for our family

My poor baby, Nolan has double ear infections and perforations in both ears ("burst" ear drums).

Saturday we noticed he wasn't napping well, had a slight decrease in his appetite, was picking at his teeth most of the day, had a low-grade fever of 99.0, and was nursing longer than usual. He is cutting two more teeth so we just assumed they were really bothering him so, we gave him Motrin mid-day and before bed time. We were up with him every 1-2 hours from 11:00pm to 8:00am and nothing we did gave him much comfort. He was hysterically crying with tears pouring down his face. It was gut-wrenching! ;(

Sunday he appeared worse, barely making a peep all day, not smiling nor laughing at the things that usually get a rise out of him, and he took a three hour nap that he had trouble waking up from. He was lethargic, was digging in and tugging at his ears, and had dark yellowish-brown crust forming around the canal of both ears, and still had a low-grade fever of 99.0. We continued with the Motrin and again were up with him 3 times throughout the night.

A little internet research led us to believe his ears were infected so, we took him to his Pediatrician during their drop-in hours Monday morning. Dr. W confirmed for us that both ears were infected with both ear drums having "burst", which explains the draining of the puss and blood. A prescription for antibiotics was given to us to give Nolan for the next 10 days and we were instructed to continue with Motrin every 4-6 hours as needed.

Today, Nolan is finally giggling, eating well, acting more like himself, and he slept all night last night.
